Justin's Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate chip cookies are probably my favorite dessert of all time. Well it's really close between them and brownies because they're both chocolaty and delicious. I've tried countless different recipes for chocolate chip cookies and I enjoy all of them but I really wanted to come up with a (slightly) healthier recipe and create my own unique version. After a lot of trial and error I came up with a cookie recipe that cooks perfectly, has the right level of sweetness, and maintains a soft texture for days. The perfect chocolate chip cookie.

To be honest, this was the recipe that started it all. This was my first attempt at creating my own recipes from scratch, by trial and error, back in the days when I was just learning about nutrition and hadn't shifted my focus to healthier foods. But the process and the idea behind this started the seed in me that eventually grew into Chefing Around and all of the wonderful and healthy recipes that Heather and I have created together over the years. Creating these amazing cookies sparked my interest in culinary creativity and I had no idea where that would take me but I'm glad I started the journey.

Justin's Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes: 24 cookies

  • 1 cup Butter, softened
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup White Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Eggs
  • 3 cups Flour (I use whole wheat pastry flour)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 cup Dark Chocolate Chunks

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream together butter, brown sugar, white sugar, honey, and vanilla.
  2. Add eggs one at a time and mix until just combined. Sift or mix flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a separate bowl.
  3. Add flour mixture, chocolate chips and chocolate chunks to butter/sugar mixture and mix until thoroughly combined.
  4. Roll dough into 24 even sized balls and bake 8 per sheet for 10-12 minutes, depending on preference.
