Traditionally Monster Cookies are made with a combination of peanut butter, oats, M&M’s and/or chocolate chips. However, there is a lot of variety between recipes and everyone makes them slightly differently. Our Monster Cookies developed from a passionate love of baking. Sometimes we would want to make cookies but didn’t have all of the ingredients that we wanted or needed. So we created a peanut butter cookie base that we could just add whatever we wanted into. For us, that usually meant leftover cereal like bran flakes instead of oats. No matter what we use, it has been delicious every time.
Cookies are definitely our favorite thing to bake but since we try to eat healthy they don’t always fit into our diet. With these Monster Cookies we attempted to create an option for a somewhat “healthy” cookie that is packed with protein and fiber. Of course there is some sugar and butter in this recipe, but if you add a good variety of healthy mix-ins, such as nuts, seeds, and whole grain cereal, you can end up with something of at least a little nutritional value in the end.
We love baking cookies and we have quite a few recipes and even a short E-book on them now. Sign up for our mailing list to receive The Cookie Book or click here to see some of our other recipes.
Choose-Your-Own Monster Cookies Mix-ins
We recommend using a variety of mix-ins with at least one sweet item like a candy or chocolate/butterscotch chips. Other than that you want to have about 1 1/2 -2 cups of other mix-ins. The end of a bag of Raisin Bran or Mini-Wheats works really well in these. Then, if you really want to make a great cookie, you can add some extra texture with some chopped nuts or seeds. Whatever you like or have on hand. We usually have almonds or walnuts and some seeds such as flax, pumpkin, or chia. They’re all delicious in these cookies.
