Turkey and Sweet Potato Skillet
This dish was inspired by a recipe that we found online quite awhile ago. We ended up deviating from and subsequently forgetting the original inspiration. We now have our own version that has become a favorite. But that is the nature of Chefing Around and part of our cooking philosophy. To take inspiration from dishes that we read about or try and then create our own versions. It might be healthier, made with improved technique, or just spiced up a little or sometimes we just take an idea and run with it. That is exactly what ended up happening with this Turkey and Sweet Potato Skillet recipe.
We’ve made this dish countless times now and what we ended up with is a simple, healthy, easy and delicious four serving dinner all cooked in one skillet. Since this dish is made completely from scratch, there is some prep involved but eating vegetables is always worth the work! Don’t worry, though, it really isn’t a lot, just sweet potatoes, onion, bell pepper, and garlic.
I experimented with many different spice combinations for this dish. Most of them were amazing but the one I ended up with is simple and really pulls the dish together. Only Turmeric, Sage, Paprika, Salt and Pepper. It adds just the right amount of savory, spice, and herb flavor to really enhance the fresh ingredients.
The mozzarella cheese topping is just icing on the cake. I can’t help it. I love cheese. It’s hard not to add it to everything. We also like to top ours with sliced avocado. It’s a delicious finishing touch.
